HLTAID009 Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

The HLTAID009 course instructs individuals on how to respond to cardiac arrest situations and potentially save lives. Cardiac arrest is a serious medical emergency, and completing this course can help prepare you to respond effectively. It is designed for workers who may need to perform CPR in various settings, including workplaces and communities.

The course covers the necessary techniques and knowledge to perform CPR according to the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

 

Where can it take your career?

The HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and HLTAID011 Provide first aid are the latest  nationally accredited units that provides you with the skills needed to positively contribute to the health training industry. These units will teach you the essential skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and provide a first aid response to a casualty, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

How is the course delivered?

Training is delivered via blended delivery (includes face-to-face and distance components).

As a part of the enrolment process, you will complete a competency assessment to determine your existing level of relevant knowledge and skills. You will then be provided with a training plan that identifies your Cohort based on this assessment.  The amount of training and support required for each learner will vary depending on your Cohort.

Course Duration: This course is designed to be completed within up to 2 days depending on your:

  • prior knowledge, skills, and experience
  • allotted time to study every week
  • learning abilities

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend up to 22 hours of study to complete these units.

What will you learn in the HLTAID009 and HLTAID011 units?

These units are designed to develop your expertise in health training. Among others, you will learn how to:

  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Provide first aid response

 

How is the course structured?

All learners will be assessed through a combination of the following assessment methods:

  • Face to face training delivery
  • Trainer demonstration + Return demonstration
  • Self-paced learning
  • Scenario-based assessments
  • Practical skills demonstration assessments
  • Questioning – Written or Verbal

 

What are the entry requirements?

To enroll in this course, there are no specific prerequisites or requirements. However, students should be physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR on the floor while kneeling for a minimum of two minutes. Additionally, it is advisable to have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) before booking the course, and we suggest creating it beforehand.

  • Workplace First Aid Kit
  • Workplace injury, trauma and/or illness record, or other appropriate workplace incident report form

Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?

In the event of a student request, opportunity for RPL is available as follows:

  1. Encourage Training College’s Assessment policy is to be followed when undertaking RPL assessments
  2. RPL applications are made using the student RPL application form to collect general information about the applicant’s background
  3. Prior to the RPL application being completed and accepted, a trainer/assessor from our RTO will meet with the RPL applicant to:
    • Explain the RPL process to the applicant
    • Review the units the applicant is considering applying for
    • Review the evidence the applicant has to support the RPL application
    • Provide advice to the applicant on how to collect and present evidence to support their application
  4. The student RPL application form must then be completed and forwarded to the RTO
  5. A copy of the student RPL application form and all verified supporting documentation will be placed on the student file
  6. A trainer/assessor from our RTO will review the RPL application and advise the RPL applicant which units they consider RPL is applicable to and the reason why
  7. The RPL applicant will be given an opportunity to amend their RPL application if they so choose
  8. Whatever the trainer/assessor from our RTO advice is, it is entirely the applicant’s decision as the which units they will submit an RPL application for
